COVID-19: 1 death, 32 new cases

SHILLONG, JAN 5: The state on Tuesday recorded a new COVID-19 related death, mounting the number of fatalities to 1,485.

 

Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said the case was from East Khasi Hills district.

 

The state also witnessed a sudden surge in the COVID-19 cases after 32 persons have been tested positive for the virus taking the total active cases to 97.

 

This was also after detection of five cases of the Omicron variant.

 

Dr War said 30 new cases were detected from East Khasi Hills alone while two others from West Garo Hills.

 

He also informed that 7 persons have recovered from the viral infection of which 6 are from East Khasi Hills and 1 from Ri Bhoi.

 

So far, the state has detected a total of 84,881 COVID-19 cases out of which 97 are active cases, 83,299 recovered and 1,485 deaths.

 

East Khasi Hills again has the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 85 followed by West Garo Hills 8, Ri Bhoi 2 and East Jaintia Hills 2.
