Devil worshipers strike again

SHILLONG, JULY 18: Suspected Satanism worshipers on Friday broke into a Church located at the Catholic Church Cemetery, Bellefonte at Lumshyiap and took the statue of Jesus Christ and placed it in front of the gate with the cross upside down.

Police said during one of the inspection led by the East Khasi hills deputy commissioner in some of the cemeteries it was found that several graves were desecrated with obscene graffiti and liquor bottles strewn all over.

In certain cases miscreants even lit bonfires using wooden crosses extracted from the graves. Section 144 CrPC is already in place prohibiting assembly of people in and around the graveyards.

In the month of May, five alleged “devil worshippers” were arrested and later, released from Tura, the headquarters of the West Garo Hills.

The East Khasi Hills district administration had sent letters to elders of localities and church groups within the state capital soliciting their co-operation to maintain vigil, and to share inputs on the alleged practice of devil worship.

The locality elders and church groups were also assured of support from the district administration in case help was required to tackle the alleged practise.

The localities were particularly urged to keep a close vigil on graveyards, as the alleged devil worshippers are believed to be using the cemeteries for their rendezvous.- By Our Reporter
