DG inspects incomplete jail

NONGSTOIN, APR 25: The Director General (Prison) Prem Singh on Friday inspected the construction of the Nongstoin district jail located at Photkynthei, 2 kilometers away from Nongstoin.

The spot inspection by Singh was accompanied by assistant executive engineer, PWD(building) Nongstoin division RD Pakyntein who is overlooking the construction work.

Singh told reporters that the purpose of his visit is to see that work is implemented properly.  He said the government wants to complete the work within the estimate budget that has been revised which is now up to the government whether to release the estimate amount or not.

Singh also assured that the department will its best to resume the work at the earliest. The jail project at Nongstoin was started in 2005 with the projection of completing it within 5 years. But the construction remains incomplete.

Rs 6.25 crore had been sanction since 20 December, 2003 for construction of Nongstoin district jail at the 10.35 acres of land at Phot Kynthei, which is two kilometers away from Nongstoin. – By Our Reporter
