SHILLONG, JULY 5 The yearlong diamond jubilee celebration of Sri Sarada Sangha, Shillong branch was inaugurated by Meghalaya Governor KK Paul on Saturday at a function held at the Ramakrishna Mission auditorium, Laitumkhrah.

Paul lauded the Sri Sarada Sangha organization for achieving this milestone. The diamond jubilee celebration gives an opportunity to each members of the organization to rededicate to social work with a motto of service, inclusion and cultivating the simple values of everyday life as practiced by the Holy Mother, Sri Sarada Devi, Paul said during his inaugural address.

The Shillong unit of Sarada Sangha was form in 1955 by the devotees of holy mother. The Sarada Sangha is a women organization having 52 branches all over the country and provides a platform for household women who work for spreading the message of Sri Sri Ma for social and spiritual uplifment of society.

Earlier the organization felicitates Dr. Smti Ashrafi Begum, social worker, Dr. Kumar Kanti Das, physician cum- social worker, Prof. Shyamadas Bhattacharya, educationist, Satish Chandra Paul, merchant and Karunananda Chakravorty, harmonica player for their contribution to the society.

Financial aid to the meritorious needy students was also handed over by Rev. Swami Achyuteshananda, secretary of  Ram Krishna Mission, Shillong to Aitimon Kharbani, a blind girl who secured first division in the HSLC exam 2014 with 67% marks, Kavir Alam of Laban Bengali Boys Higher Secondary School, Shillong who scored 94% marks in Bengali in the HS LC exam- 2014, Syanladlut K.Malai, talented footballer of Laban Bengali Boys Higher Secondary School, Shillong and Sanjay Sah, Class IV student of Anup Chand High School Shillong.

The highlights of the day include ceremonial lighting of lamp by Paul and other dignitaries and lighting of 60 lamps by the members of the Sri Sarada Sangha to mark the diamond jubilee celebration.

BB Dutta, ex-Rajya Sabha MP, Uma Purkayastha, president Sri Sarada Sangha and Sunanda Purkayastha, secretary Diamond Jubilee Celebration committee also spoke on the occasion.- By Our Reporter
