E. K . Hills Gr IV candidates serve ultimatum

SHILLONG, DEC 13:The 209 candidates from East Khasi Hills who have qualified to be employed in the Grade IV staff of the state government have served a four-day ultimatum to the government to either absorb them in the service or face protest.

“If the government fails to comply with our demand, we will be compelled to take up other course of action,” warned the president of the Association of Qualified Grade-IV Candidates 2011, East Khasi hills district (AQGC) A Kurbah. Only 122 from the 331 candidates who had been declared qualified by the district selection committee (DSC) of East Khasi Hills on October 28, 2011 have so far been appointed in different departments by the government.

Kurbah alleged the state government failed to mention the number of vacant Grade IV posts in government departments in flagrant violation of a Supreme Court order.  “An RTI application revealed that a total of 200 posts were lying vacant in different government departments. However, most of the appointments appear to have been done through backdoors in violation of the recruitment policy of the state,” he said.

The government, he said, had cited the ruling of the apex court and claimed that the names in the panel of qualified candidates had elapsed. However, a close scrutiny of the verdict revealed that  the number of candidates in the empanelled list should have corresponded to the number of vacant posts. “We later came to know that the list of candidates in the panel is still awaiting government approval. We want government to immediately approve the list so that no candidate, especially those whose age limit is at stake, is deprived of their due rights,” he said. By Our Reporetr
