SHILLONG, OCT 29:  When mankind encroach the natural habitat of wild animals, the result can be quite damaging- both for animals and man. That is exactly what seemed to have happened on Wednesday night when a herd of 80-100 elephants went on a rampage destroying paddy fields in Khardang village in North Garo hills district.

The herds of elephants crossed the Dorengtip  village area under Goalpara district of Assam and Khardang village under North Garo Hills and damaged paddy just before being harvested.

However, the herd of elephants did no damages to the houses in the village but unaccounted numbers of paddy fields were destroyed.

It was a great loss to the farmers as the paddy fields were destroyed just before the harvest said a villager Toruni Rabha. Till Thursday evening state government officials were yet to visit the village.-By Our Reporter
