SHILLONG, OCT 29:  To stop the menace of eve teasing all over the country, the Supreme Court has directed the state governments to depute plain clothed female police officers in bus stands, railway stations, metro stations, cinema halls, shopping malls, parks, beaches, public service vehicles, places of worships to monitor and supervise incidents of eve teasing.

The menace of eve teasing especially in other parts of the country has become a real headache for girls and women. Some of the incidents have really gone ugly even as the law enforcing authorities have become mostly spectator as it has failed to curb this social menace.

Taking cognizance of such instances all over the country the Supreme Court of India stepped in and has issued a set of direction to the state governments which it felt will control the eve teasing menace.

The Meghalaya political department under secretary informed that the apex court has also directed   to all the state governments to install CCTV in strategic positions which would act as a deterrent to eve teasers besides helping in nabbing those who includes in such activities.

The state government should also take adequate and effective measures by issuing suitable instructions to the concerned authorities including District collectors and the District Superintendent of Police so as to take effective and proper measures to curb such incidents of eve-teasing, added the Under Secretary. – By Our Reporter
