Ex-cm, deputy cms among 64 to file papers

SHILLONG, FEB 4: Former chief minister and veteran Congress leader DD Lapang, deputy chief ministers Bindo M Lanong and Rowel Lyngdoh, former deputy chief minister and MPCC working president Deborah Marak besides four ministers were amongst the six-four candidates from the eleven districts of the state to file their nomination papers for the February 23, Meghalaya Assembly elections.

Out of the 21 candidates who filed their nomination papers from East Khasi hills district today, 10 are from Congress party, 6 from UDP, 3 are independents while two from HSPDP.

The Congress candidates included three ministers – HDR Lyngdoh from Sohiong constituency, Prestone Tynsong from Pynursla, AL Hek from Pynthorumkhrah, besides Kennedy Khyriem – Mawphlang, Mohendro Rapsang – West Shillong, Roshan Warjri – North Shillong,  PN Syiem – Mawsynram, Founder S Cajee – Mawlai, Drolasingh Khongjoh – Mawkynrew and Ronnie V Lyngdoh – Mylliem constituency filed their nomination on the fifth day.

Besides, Bindo M Lanong who will be contesting from East Shillong constituency, the UDP candidates included – Remington Pyngrope – Mawkynrew, Hilander Kharlukhi – Mawryngkneng, Banalari Khongwar – Pynursla, Edward Kharwanlang – South Shillong, and Dr Jemino Mawthoh – Nongthymmai constituency.

The two candidates from the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) included sitting legislator Ardent Basaiawmoit from Nongkrem and Pyniaid Syiem from Mawryngkneng.

The three independent candidates however included Donkupar Massar from Pynursla, Banteidor Lyngdoh from Mawkynrew and Suli Lyngdoh from Mawsynram.

In East and West Jaintia hills, altogether eight candidates have filed their nomination papers for the February 23, Assembly elections in the state.

Three candidates including sitting legislator and congress candidate Sniawbhalang Dhar, independent candidate Hilarius Dkhar and BJP candidate Veecare Nicia Lamare filed their nomination papers from Nartiang constituency, while two independent candidates Moonlight Pariat and Heimon Hinge filed their papers from Jowai constituency.

Others filing their nomination papers in Jaintia hills included three congress candidates – Shitlang Pale from Sutnga, Comingone Ymbon from Raliang and Qually Suiam from Mowkaiaw constituency.

Altogether 16 candidates filed their nomination in East Garo hills district.

Former deputy chief minister and Congress candidate, Deborah Marak filed her nomination papers from Williamnagar constituency. Her two other opponents including NPP candidate, Marcuise N Marak and independent candidate, Jonathan Sangma also filed their papers today.

Six candidates from Rongjeng constituency filed their nomination papers which included – NPP candidate, Desang M Sangma, Congress candidate, Sengnam Sangma, independent candidate, Sabina D Sangma, SP candidate, Rapiush Marak, independent candidate, Raju G Momin and NCP candidate, Sunolsing Sangma.

From Karkutta constituency, four candidates including BJP candidate Elstone D Marak, Congress candidate, Cherak Momin, NPP candidate, Omillo K Sangma and independent candidate, Rupert Momin filed their papers. While from Songsak constituency, three including Congress candidate, Tonsing N Marak, NPP candidate, Nihim D Shira and independent candidate, Fardina C Marak also filed their nomination today.

In Ri Bhoi district, a total of 10 candidates filed their nomination for the 60 – seats Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, including veteran leader and MPCC President Dr. D.D Lapang.

Among the veteran leader of congress party who have filed his nomination paper for the Nongpoh seat, there are four Congress candidates, three UDP candidates and including S. Sohtun from NPP party of Jirang Seat and Paskal Lyngkhoi from HSPDP from Nongpoh seat.

The others four congress candidate who have filed their papers include P.W Muktieh from Mawhati, Barnabas Nongbah from Jirang, Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh from Umsning and Ngaitlang Dhar from Umroi while other three UDP candidates include F.M Mawphniang from Umsning, Tirot Singh Sun from Umroi and Wander Lapang from Jirang.

Meanwhile in West Khasi hills, five candidates filed their nomination which included deputy chief minister and Mawkyrwat congress candidate, Rowel Lyngdoh.

Beside Lyngdoh, independent candidate, Hadrian Lyngdoh also filed his papers from Mawkyrwat constituency.

NPP candidate, Cornelius Nongbri and independent candidate, Tranklip N Sangma filed their nomination from Ranikor constituency while UDP candidate, Brolding Nongsiej and independent candidate, Irene Lyngdoh also filed their papers from Mawthadraishan constituency.

Others who have filed their nominations papers today included Congress candidate, Methodius Dkhar, UDP candidate, Fantin Kitbok Ryntathiang and independent candidate, Eugene Everald Kharlukhi from Mawshynrut constituency in West Khasi hills.
