Paul files papers, so did ngo leaders

SHILLONG, FEB 5: The 2013 Meghalaya assembly elections will be seeing lots of student and ngo leaders who have thrown their hat in the electoral politics and are aspiring legislator from various constituencies. On Tuesday, the pack was led by former Khasi Students Union (KSU) leader and United Democratic Party (UDP) working president Paul Lyngdoh who had been elected to the Meghalaya assembly twice from the Jaiaw constituency.

Lyngdoh had been elected to the Meghalaya assembly in 2003 and 2008. On Tuesday he came with horde of his supporters to file his nomination papers from his new constituency, Shillong West, after the delimitation, and major parts of Jaiaw which is his strong hold and Lower Mawprem continues to be part of this new constituency.

Former KSU education secretary Embhah Syiemlieh also filed his nomination papers as the UDP candidate from Mawlai constituency.

Among the ngo leader who also filed their nomination papers on Tuesday is  former FKJGP president Sounder Cajee who will be contesting the upcoming assembly polls as an Independent candidate from Shillong South constituency. He will be locking horns with his former colleague from FKJGP vice president and Meghalaya assembly deputy speaker Sanbor Shullai who will be contesting as NCP candidate.

Former education minister and Congress candidate Mana Chaudhuri will also be vying to be reelected from Shillong South constituency. He had filed his nomination papers on Monday.

Cajee filed his  papers in style as he came his supporters riding in hundred of motor bikes.- By Our Reporter
