TURA, NOV 18: East Garo hills police on Thursday seized Rs 35 lakhs from two suspected GNLA over ground workers while they were carrying the cash to find means to convert it into white money. The attempt to legalise the money comes after the BJP led NDA coalition government demonetized the Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes.

The demonetization of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes has hit the militant outfits including the GNLA hard since they have become cash-starved. Police are not willing to share details about the seizure and the arrest of the two overground workers pleading that the case is under the preliminary stages of investigation.

“As investigation is on we cannot reveal anything at this juncture. Suffice to say that three GNLA civilian cadres have been arrested and cash belonging to the outfit have been recovered from them,” East Garo hills SP Davies Marak informed.

Two of the three who were arrested have been identified as Lingstone Ch Marak. Police had seized Rs 34,65860 from him. He is a resident of Chachatgre.

As luck would have it that while returning from Lingstone’s house, police made another arrest of Simple Ch Momin and recovered over 1 lakh rupees from his possession.
