Examining residential bill

SHILLONG, SEPT 2: The Select Committee headed by chief minister Mukul Sangma on Friday said it will complete the process of analyzing the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Bill, 2016 in its next sitting on September 7. Addressing newsmen after its meeting, Sangma said, “We have decided to sit again on September 7, to ensure that the whole exercise of analyzing the Bill is completed.”

He informed that the select committee took up the exercise of examining the bill clause by clause keeping in mind its objective and purpose and the commitment to place it before the upcoming assembly session.

Stating the analysis was made on certain critical areas, the chief minister said, “We are also preparing the necessary recommendations for effective implementation of the Bill from the enforcement perspective.”

When asked, Sangma however said as per convention, the select committee cannot reveal the critical areas until and unless the bill is placed before the assembly for its necessary consideration.-By Our Reporter
