Exodus a Political Agenda: S Nongrum

Shillong, August 22: Former Meghalaya minister and chief minister’s political secretary Sayedullah Nongrum says that there is a political agenda behind the mass exodus of the people from north east and the hate campaign against them.

The central government had in fact confirmed that the hate campaign originated from social networks sites and smses spreading fear among the people belonging from the north eastern region either working or studying in Maharashtra or South India states originated from Pakistan. Around two hundreds sites have been blocked and the smses have been limited to five per user in India.

Taking advantages of the communal pogrom that took place between the tribal Bodos and the Bangladeshis migrants in Assam, the hate campaigns against the people of north east India was spread all over Southern states and Pune in Maharashtra where there are sizable NE origin people either working or studying.

Sayeedullah Nongrum firmly believes that the panic that was spread among the NE people that led to about five thousand workers    leaving Karnataka, Hyderabad and Pune fraught with political agenda.

Nongrum said, “There is some anti-social element with a vested interest behind the hate messages spreading on the net, but we cannot rule out the political agenda behind it.” But he felt that whatever may be the reason, there are means and ways to bring everything under control if there is a political will, “which we are doing now by way of the Helpline where people can dial and get help immediately.” By Joe Thangkhiew
