SHILLONG, MAY 20: South West Garo hills police on Tuesday arrested Somsing Marak of Arenggre village for serving extortion demand to a Catholic institution in Ampati recently. He was arrested from his village on Tuesday morning for trying to extort St. Claret’s School, Ampati on May 14.
This particular case became sensitive as all the Catholic institutions in Garo hills announced one day closure on Tuesday to protest against the threat to the school.
South West Garo hills SP R Muthu appreciated the team led by additional SP LM Sangma and Inspector CD Shira for apprehending the culprit and said further investigation was on to find out other co-accused in the crime.
On Monday, deputy commissioner Ram Singh had also expressed his anguish and condemned the threat to the school.- By Our Reporter
