Fake currency unearthed in GH

TURA,MAY 1: Meghalaya police today arrested two accused from Rajabala in West Garo Hills for their involved in fake currency racket.

An amount of Rs. 1,32,000 was seized from their possession.

“High quality FICN (Fake Indian Currency Notes) of face value Rs 2000 was seized by our police team from Rajabala area”, said Raghuvendra Kumar, superintendent of police, West Garo Hills.

Kumar said that they were part of a bigger gang of international smugglers who source FICN from across the international border mostly through neighbouring Mancachar town of Assam, which is close to Bangladesh.

The SP claimed that the group has already circulated around 30-40 lakh of FICN in Garo hills.

“The notes have high security thread, 3d raised elevation for visibly disable people”, he added.

The accused arrest were identified as – Abdul Kalam from Hazirat, near Rajabala and Saleng Sangma of Tura.

Police said that the gang operates mostly during weekly bazaar days so that they are able to mix the FICN money into circulation.
