Fenela finally expelled

SHILLONG, APR 24: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) finally decided to expel Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait, a party leader from West Khasi Hills district unit, from the party for her anti party activity.

The decision was taken at the HSPDP Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting held in the presence of the party president Hopingstone Lyngdoh in the city on Thursday.

“We have unanimously decided to expel Nonglait for her anti party activity by disrespecting the party’s decision,” HSPDP joint secretary Witting Mawsor, also a legislator told reporters at a news conference after the meeting.

Earlier, a similar decision had been taken at the party’s West Khasi Hills district unit and Mawthadraishan constituency unit level against Fenela after she supported the United Democratic Party (UDP)’s candidate Paul Lyngdoh in the Lok Sabha elections which ended on April 9.

Mawsor claimed that there was already a standing order of the HSPDP that all leaders, workers and supporters of the party should support the Independent candidate PBM Basaiawmoit in the Lok Sabha election.

“However, Nonglait had gone against the party’s decision by supporting the UDP candidate after which the party felt that is necessary to take action against her for rebelling against the party,” Mawsor said.

Meanwhile, sources alleged that the party president Hopingstone Lyngdoh was not happy with the decision taken by the members today.

Mawsor while denying that the party president was unhappy with the decision of expelling Fenela said he  had in fact stated that he will accept whatever decision was taken by the majority since the HSPDP is not an individual party but belongs to the people of the region.

Fenela, also the niece of the party chief Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, was also the party’s candidate in the last MLA and MDC elections from Mawthadraishan constituency of the district but lost both the elections– By Our Reporter
