SHILLONG, JAN 31:  Fifteen roadside fish stalls were charred by raging fire that took place early on Friday morning at Bishnupur market. However police said that nobody was injured as it happened at around 8 am when nobody was around.

Two fire tenders rushed to the bazaar to douse the fire but by the time they reach, the shops were completely charred. For sometime there was panic in the area as the residents panicked that the fire might spread to the nearby houses.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang told this website that the police are trying to find out what caused the fire early in the morning. He said, “Only after I get the report I will be able to say what cause the fire and whether it is a case of arson or not.” He also informed that nobody was injured in the fire as it happed early in the morning when nobody was around.

The firefighters also helped in seeing that the fire was properly doused.

One of the reasons that the fire quickly consumed the stalls was because all the stalls were made of wood and hence were easily inflammable. – By Our Reporter
