SHILLONG, JULY 17: Five militants of the A’chik Songna An’pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) were arrested by Meghalaya police from a remote village in North Garo hills district and also seized Rs 1.40 lakh meant for purchasing of arms for a gun runner from Assam.

The North Garo hills district police and SWAT commandoes launched an operation and intercepted a Maruti car (AS 01 U 3595) which was carrying the five militants at a tri-junction at Soksan village, 3 km from Mendipathar police station, a senior police officer informed.

The five ASAK militants were arrested and the police recovered Rs 1,40,150 and incriminating documents from them.

The arrested  have been identified as Doma Ch Momin (26) alias John of Dalu Dapgre (West Garo Hills) Sunen A Sangma of Upper Wakagre, Damalgre, Salbong M Sangma (30) of Dakopgre, Tura, Thailand R Marak (34) of Rongsu Agal and Onimesh D Sangma (40) of Waidagre (South Garo Hills).

The police officer also informed that during preliminary interrogation, the arrested militants revealed that they were on their way to Assam border for purchasing AK ammunitions and 9mm pistol from a gun runner.- By Our Reporter
