SHILLONG, SEPT 11: Five persons were arrested from the city after police recovered twenty-five batteries stolen from a mobile tower from a vehicle they were using on Thursday morning. Conducting a naka in Mawlai, police intercepted a tourist taxi Swift Dzire (ML-05-H-8180) and found 25 batteries.
East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang saidthe batteries were stolen from a mobile tower in Ri-Bhoi district.
The five arrested have been identified as Noor Muhammad Khan (25), Ranjan Barman (32), Sudip Acharjee (23), Swapan Acharjee and Biswajit Roy (30) all hailing from Bishnupur.
“The same gang has committed the same crime and wanted in several cases within East Khasi hills district,” Kharkhrang said. He also informed the person Ahat Ali of Kamrup Hajo to whom the scrap are sold has been arrested from Keating road.- By Our Reporter
