Four more dies of COVID-19, death toll rises to 51

 

 COVIDSHILLONG, SEP 30: The state on Wednesday reported 176 new cases of COVID-19 and 4 related deaths, taking the total infection count to 5,641 and the toll to 51.

 72-year-old MD Salim, a resident of Mawbah, passed away at the Nazareth hospital, while another 74-year-old Minati Chakraborty of Laban Last-stop was declared brought dead at Bethany hospital at 3.05 am and a cancer patient, Dran Lyngkhoi (68) of Smit Raplem, died at the Shillong civil hospital at 2.20 am today, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.

He said Salim was brought to the Nazareth hospital in a gasping stage and immediately he was taken to the isolation ward and tried to revive but because of the severity of the disease, he passed away at 1.40 am. The cause of death could not be determined but when the samples taken after he died came out positive for COVID-19.

Dr War said Chakraborty, who also tested positive for coronavirus, had history of flu like illness and gastroenteritis for past three days and was on self-medication at home adding she was also known case of type-II diabetes mellitus and hypertension while, Lyngkhoi on the other hand was suffering from cancer and was found to be positive on September 27. He was shifted to the COVID Unit of the civil hospital, Shillong but in spite of the treatment being provided the patient succumbed to his illnesses on Wednesday.

Dr War informed that another patient, Donia Khyriem (59) was found to be COVID-19 positive on being admitted at the Dr H Gordon Robert hospital on September 18. However, the patient passed away on September 28, due to COVID-19 with acute respiratory distress syndrome, cerebrovascular accident and intracranial hemorrhage.

The senior medical officer further informed that 176 more persons were tested positive for the viral infection during the past 24 hours, taking the number of active cases up to 1,615 as on date.

113 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in East Khasi Hills district, 30 from West Garo Hills district, 18 from Ri Bhoi district, 11 from South West Garo Hills district and one each from East Garo Hills district, North Garo Hills district, West Khasi Hills district and South West Khasi Hills district.

Out of the 37 recovered COVID-19 patients, Dr War  said, 21 were from West Garo Hills, 11 from Ri Bhoi, 3 from East Khasi Hills and 2 from South West Garo Hills.

Furthermore, he informed that 9 more patients have recovered in West Garo Hills district, 4 in East Jaintia Hills district, 3 in East Garo Hills district and two in Ri Bhoi district.

He said 3,975 COVID-19 patients have been discharged as on date.

“Till date, swab samples of 1, 50,809 persons have been sent for testing of which 1, 45,170 were found to be negative,” Dr War said.

The state has detected a total of 5,641 COVID-19 out of which 1,615 are active cases, 3,975 recovered and 51 deaths.

Bengaluru Urban district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 2,20,847 infections, followed by Mysuru 33,300 and Ballari 30,943.

East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 1,052 infections, that include 48 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 1,004 civilians, followed by East Jaintia Hills 213, West Garo Hills 163, and Ri Bhoi 103.

In the other districts, 24 cases are in North Garo Hills, 22 in South West Garo hills, 12 in West Jaintia Hills, 11 in East Garo Hills, 9 in West Khasi Hills, 4 in South West Khasi Hills and 2 in South Garo Hills.

There are 42,710 entrants from outside the state.
