Girl rescued from abductor

SHILLONG, JULY 11: A 14 year old girl was rescued on Saturday by South West Khasi Hills District police after she was kidnapped five days ago even as the abductor was also arrested.  “We have rescued the girl and handed over to her parents today,” West Khasi hills SP Dr MGR Kumar said.

Ibarisha Nongsiej of Rangmaw village in the district was allegedly kidnapped by one Silbarius Lyngkhoi of Riangdo village in West Khasi Hills District on July 6, while she had gone to wash clothes in the pool near her house.

Police immediately swung into action after receiving a complaint lodge by girl’s father OK Syiemiong on the following day.

“Immediately on receipt of the information, Mawkyrwat police registered a case and swung into action to try locating the accused and to rescue the victim,” Kumar said.

Raids were conducted in suspected places and information about the case passed on to all police stations and outposts in Meghalaya.

Movement of the accused was monitored and search and rescue was coordinated with Umiam police station and Nongstoin police station along with cooperation of West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi police and other local NGOs like KSU.

The accused Lyngkhoi was apprehended and victim rescued and handed over to her parents, he said.

Meanwhile, the parent of the victim have also expressed their gratitude to the swift action and rescue of victim by the South West Khasi Hills police.- By Our Reporter
