GNLA rebel gun downed

TURA,AUG 23: A Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) cadre was gun downed in an encounter at Dabalgre village in South Garo hills. Meghalaya police and CRPF personnel jointly launched the counter insurgency operation in the area, which is part of the Durama hill range and is considered one of the most interior parts of Emangre, known for its poor road communication and thick jungles.

Police said that the militants had made attempt to ambush the approaching police team by firing from the jungle. However, in the exchange of fire, which lasted for about 10 minutes, the GNLA cadre was killed and several others managed to escape.

The body of the militant has been taken to Baghmara civil hospital for a post mortem.-From Our Correspondent
