Shillong, Sept 27: Bowing down to the pressure of the striking doctors, the Meghalaya government has ordered an inquiry into the alleged high handedness of the police who forcefully arrested and handcuffed a resident doctor at a remote health centre in South Garo Hills district.
The South Garo Hills district administration has order a magisterial inquiry headed by Additional District Magistrate AM Sangma and the report is expected to be filed within two week.
The Meghalaya Medical Service Association (MMSA), however, has warned that if stringent action against the erring police personnel(s) is not taken the doctors would resort to agitation from next week.
Dr WN Sangma was detained and handcuffed by the police for not allowing police personnel to park their vehicles in the hospital premises.
According to MMSA members though the doctor was released by the police after detaining him but he was again taken for medical examination at night which according to MMSA is a criminal act since he was not in police custody.-By Our Reporter
