Govt cave in to RBYF demand, stir called off

IMG_0248SHILLONG, JULY 18: Caving in to the demand of the Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) the Meghalaya government agreed to make some sort of arrangements for reemploying the two employees who were terminated from the MUDA office at Byrnihat. After the assurance the RBYF decided to call off their agitation on Thursday.

The two causal cleaners, Hundalin Warjri and Sabita Lapang ,were removed from the services after which RBYF put the MUDA office at Byrnihat under lock and key followed by a two night road blockade during which stray incidents were reported from various parts of Garo Hills. ‘

The RBYF decided to call of its agitation after it held a meeting with the state government at the secretariat which was attended by RBYF leaders in presence of Nongpoh MLA DD Lapang and Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.

Later, Lyngdoh said that the MUDA is exercising ways and means for an arrangement of the two casual employees in other positions.

“We are making arrangements to ensure that the livelihood of the two employees is not affected,” Lyngdoh added.

Earlier in the day, the RBYF held office picketing in the district following which they were called by the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi district and later the ngo leaders reached Shillong for the meeting with the Lyngdoh.

The MUDA has also agreed to withdrawn the FIR filed against RBYF leaders on the condition that the law and order must be maintained in the district.- By Our Reporter
