Govt doctors to cease work on Oct 10, 13

Shillong, Oct  7: Doctors under the banner of the ‘Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA)’ decided to stage a two-day cease work from 9 am of October 10 to October 13 as a mark of protest on the inaction of the government against the erring police personnel involved in assaulting a medical officer of Chokpot PHC.

MMSA general secretary Dr. A War  said Sunday, “We will temporarily abstain from our place of work for two days to protest against the deliberate inaction of the government.”

Submitting a memorandum to the Commissioner and Secretary in charge of Health & Family Welfare Department about the agitation, Dr War said, “The members of the association will also refrain from any kind of medical practice on these two days.”

Dr War said, “Government is requested to make alternative arrangements to ensure smooth delivery of health services to the public during the course of protest.”

The MMSA is demanding for penal action as well as immediate initiation of disciplinary proceedings including placing the erring police personnel under suspension immediately.

The government, however, have not reacted to the demand of the MMSA.
