Govt to introduce airport service next week

Shillong, Nov 29 : Six Airport shuttle service will be introduce next week to ferry passengers going from Shillong to the Guwahati airport twice daily. This service will be operated by the Meghalaya Urban department.

Urban affairs department principal secretary P Naik told this reporter that the shuttle service is likely to take off by the end of next week. He said, “Initially, six shuttle service will be introduced to ferry airport passengers from Shillong to Guwahati airport and also bring passengers from the airport coming to Shillong.”

The air condition six wingers will carry nine passengers each. According to Naik, “The passenger will be charge Rs 350 each. They can either book the ticket in advance or can directly buy from the counter provided it is available.”

The airport service will be in two phases. One service will cater to the passengers who have to catch their early morning flight and the second one will be for the passengers who have to catch their flight in the afternoon.

Naik is confident that the airport service will be as self sustaining as the STPS operated by the government. He said, “ I am happy that the STPS and the SSTS services are a huge success and the demand for the introduction for such public transport is still  there.”

Naik revealed that the urban affairs department is thinking of putting into service more STPS buses for the convenience of the public. He said, “ Soon we will increase the number of STPS buses plying thorough the different routes as the demand for this public transport is still huge.”

Naik said the ideal waiting time in any route for the public transport should not be more than fifteen minutes.- By Our Reporter
