Helpline for NE people

SHILLONG, MAY 30: As cases of violence against the students from North East in New Delhi is rising, the Delhi police have adopted a ‘zero-tolerance policy’ and appointed a chief coordinator of IG rank and 11 coordinators from district additional CsP/DCsP and 40 police representatives from students and employees of North East region.

A notification to this effect was issued by the union government on Friday.

The police will conduct regular sensitization for all ranks of police personnel and hold regular meetings with all such representatives. Moreover, new helpline 1093 for North Eastern people is already functional since February 14, and a special cell in Nanak Pura police station has also been designated exclusively to deal with the problem of NE people in New Delhi, the notification stated.

Joint Commissioner of Police( Training) has also been appointed as Chief Nodal Officer to look after the grievances of NE people. English speaking lady police will be placed at all police stations in Delhi and special training will be provided to the staff of North, North West and South Districts where maximum NE citizens reside in Delhi.

A website has been launched under the name of Delhi Police for North-East (dpne.com) for suggestions and grievances, relating to NE people, living in Delhi, it stated.- By Our Reporter
