HM expresses concern over rise in crimes

SHILLONG, MAR 30: Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Tuesday crimes including rape are increasing in the state.

“This is a very disturbing trend,” Rymbui told reporters. He said it is quite unfortunate to see people who were supposed to protect their family instead have the audacity to commit such crimes.

“I am very disturb seeing these types of things where people knowingly the consequences of their actions still are committing such crimes…people who we expect to be protectors are instead the perpetrators of such crimes – that is very disturbing trend,” he said.

Urging the society to be fight unitedly against rape and other crimes, the minister said, “Society as a whole we must take note of this trend, the culprit whoever he may be whatever crime committed we must stand united, we should inform the government so that necessary prevention could be taken. I hope that the sooner we realize as a community, the better.”

As if the existing laws have failed to act as deterrence to people from committing such crimes, Rymbui said, “What make these people to have the audacity to commit the crime knowing fully well the consequences of what they are doing, that it needs proper study but for us we have to act swiftly.”
