Probe into Byrnihat power scam sought

SHILLONG, MAR 30: United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong on Tuesday has asked the state government to institute an inquiry into alleged Byrnihat power scam.

In a statement, Lanong said the sensational power-theft discovery by no other than the CMD of the MeECL, A Kembhavi at Byrnihat Industrial Area, has exposed the Pandora’s box about the shady and well technically-managed operation done over the years, with the patronage of those in the corridor of Power Corporation itself, which had caused immense sufferings to the public at large due to regular power shut-down and an economic loss to the state.

He said there is however another undisclosed source doing the rounds which contests the claim of the CMD, creating controversy to public.

“However, while complementing the CMD for his brave and unreserved disclosure of such findings in the scam, I would suggest to the government as per practice, to immediately file criminal complaint against all those allegedly involved in the crime and appoint an inquiry committee to conduct thorough investigations in all the industrial areas and other big industries in the state and also file claim for recovery of arrear financial loss after assessment,” Lanong stated.
