HNLC claims responsibility for gunning down man at Pynursla

SHILLONG, MAY 14: The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) claimed responsibility on Tuesday for gunning down 54-year-old Romeo Lyngdoh and warned to eliminate all those who are responsible for the death of its cadres.

Lyngdoh was shot dead by two armed persons at his residence in Lapalang village under Pynursla civil sub-division about 2 kilometers away from the international border in East Khasi Hills on Sunday night.

“This is to inform that our army cadres were responsible for the death of Romeo Lyngdoh who had received death penalty due to his involvement in activities against the HNLC and the ‘Jaidbynriew’,” general secretary cum publicity secretary of the outfit, Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement issued here.

Nongtraw alleged that Lyngdoh was a sanctioned agent who worked as a police informer and he was paid handsomely and was instrumental in recruiting informers for the state police locally and also from Bangladesh.

“We had been hunting him from the year 2008 and finally he fell to our bullets on the night of May 12,” he said.

The outfit leader further alleged that Lyngdoh was the one who had provided information to the police in 2016 when the HNLC cadres were arrested in Pynursla along with IEDs adding the police had been using him all the while and he was in their payroll.

According to him, the cadres of the outfit had reserved his car unknowingly that he was a police informer.

Meanwhile, the HNLC said that it is determined to eliminate all those who are responsible for the death of many of its cadres.

“From now onwards we shall not reveal the names of people in our hitlist. We shall hit first and then we shall make our claims legitimate,” Nongtraw warned.

“Using violence to stop violence won’t resolve anything, as long as government use violence to combat violence, we will always have violence, if the govt is of the opinion that violence can solve anything, ‘Try Us’. Our fingers are ready to press the trigger, and let the bullet pierce the hearts of the enemies,” he said.

Nongtraw said we would like to make aware to our Hynñiewtrep brothers who are working in the police department and intelligence branch, that they should not take pride in what they do against our ‘Jaidbynriew’.

“They should understand that we are fighting for a cause, and they are working with people who want to convert us into slavery. They are traitors and by doing this they are no different from Indians who worked for the British regime against the Indians,” he said.

Nongtraw also appealed to the people to love their motherland and work to protect our very own national identity adding it’s through our people and their support that we can carry forward our struggle.
