HNLC warns MUDA

SHILLONG, NOV 14: The proscribe Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC)has warned the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) officials against continuing the  eviction drives against tribal people even as it termed the arrest of a social activist Agnes Kharshiing  as another “political ploy”.

“The council issues strict warning to the employees of MUDA including the district administration not to repeat such action in the near future or be ready to face the consequences,” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement issued to media houses on Thursday.

Nongtraw said that the HNLC condemns the barbaric step taken by the MUDA to evict and dismantle the houses of the poor people residing at Umsawli and Mawlong Umtari at  the behest of the state urban affairs minister Ampareen Lyngdoh.

Terming the MUDA as “Meghalaya Unconstitutional Destroying Authority”, Nongtraw said, “Traditionally, the MUDA is not the owner of the Hynñiewtrep land.”

Quoting the Urban Minister who claimed that she is not afraid of the threat issued by the outfit, as she is serving for the rights of the public, Nongtraw responded by saying, “The people of Meghalaya are all aware of her services in terms of indulging in backdoor jobs and even tampering youths credibility with white ink.”

“Mrs Ampareen Lyngdoh your white ink will work out no more. Even late Rajiv Gandhi, former prime minister, used to have a lot of security cover and power, but when time came, sad to say that he was assassinated by Tamil Revolutionary Organisation(LTTE),” Nongtraw said in the release. He also warned that the minister should not be proud and boastful, as this attitude will prove to be fatal.

Condemning the arrest of social activist Agnes Kharshiing, Nongtraw termed, “Her (Kharshiing) arrest is just a mere political ploy of the Congress leaders to whitewash all the crimes of corruption by the Congress itself.” He said the MUA government will not be able to silence the burning fire inside the patriots (NGOs) by imposing MPDA or showing AK.

Nongtraw  questioned as to why the” illegal Bihari” settlers in Lapalang not put under MPDA by the government  He said that the political corruption of the Congress at national level speaks volumes and is known worldwide.

Quoting one of the revolutionary leaders who said – “If someone puts their hands on you make sure they never put their hands on anybody else again”,  Nongtraw said, “It is high time for the Hynniewtrep people to unite together and lend their helping hand towards achieving a Hynñiewtrep Sovereign State free from internal and external interferences.” – By Our Reporter
