HNLC’s OGW arrested

SHILLONG, AUG 5: Two over ground workers of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) were arrested by the police for extortion.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang told reporters that the two  identified as Willbok Lyngdoh Marshillong (21) and Sylvester Marwein (32) were arrested on Tuesday by the special cell of East Khasi Hills District based on a complaint from a resident of Laitumkhrah (name not disclose for security reasons).

Kharkhrang informed that the victim had received a SMS on August 3 from a mobile number – 918259067234 from an unknown person who claimed to be an HNLC cadre and demanded cash of Rs one lakh from him to be delivered at 7th mile upper Shillong, the next day.

Kharkhrang said that police immediately swung into action and first nabbed Willbok Lyngdoh who is presently staying at Lumparing adding that his arrest led the police to also arrest his accomplice Sylvester Marwein of Mawshubuit..

Kharkhrang revealed that the mobile phone used to make the demand was also seized, he said.  Both were produced in court which granted five days police custody. He “We are hopeful to get more details of those involved in the crime.”

Kharkhrang also said that the citizens should come forward and lodge complaints if anyone tries to extort them t assuring of quick action from the police against such criminal activities.- By Our Reporter
