Ultra escapes from hospital

TURA, AUG  6:  An under trial prisoner  suspected to be a GNLA militant  Bishnu M. Sangma managed to escape from a government hospital in Williamnagar, East Garo hills. He was in judicial custody in Williamnagar district jail.

Bishnu, a suspected Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) cadre, was arrested during an operation at Mikilsimgre village, about 19 km from Williamnagar on June 23.

East Garo hills SP Davies Marak said, “The prisoner had entered the toilet to relieve himself, but when he failed to come out even after 20 minute, the guard grew suspicious and broke open the door only to find the toilet empty”.

Marak said that the militant had escape through the ventilator. The incident took place around 3 am.“We have ordered an enquiry into the incident and the role of eight police personnel, who were deputy at the hospital”, he added.

The militant was not handcuffed as it is not permitted according to the Supreme Court ruling on under trial prisoner who are on medication at a hospital.

Bishnu is a close aide of GNLA’s East Garo hills area commander, Ajan Momin alias Jimmy.

On June 23, Rex Miller R. Sangma, under trial United A’chik Liberation Army (UALA) cadre also had escaped from Tura Civil Hospital.- From Our Correspondent

    Supreme court ordered not to be handcuffed so it’s the only main reason n opportunity for the UTP to escape easily but fellow policeman facing the problem.
