HSPDP accused of violating MCC

IMG_20180213_141724SHILLONG, FEB 13: National People’s Party (NPP) candidate from Nongkrem Hispreaching Son Shylla today accused the HSPDP sitting legislator of the constituency Ardent M Basaiawmoit of allegedly violating the model code of conduct.

“He (Ardent) has violated the model code of conduct by holding a public meeting at Mawmuthoh village on February 2,” Shylla, who is also a sitting MDC of the KHADC, told journalists at a press conference held here on Tuesday.

Earlier, Basaiawmoit had replied to the showcause notice issued by the authority concerned by claiming that the meeting held at the residence of a party worker at Mawmuthoh village was a closed-door meeting of the Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP).

However, Shylla refused to agree to this by displaying a programme schedule of the HSPDP for the coming Assembly polls and said, “As per this programme of the party it has clearly indicated that the meeting at Mawmuthoh was a public meeting and not closed-door.”

He alleged that it was held even after the headman of Mawmuthoh did not allow the HSPDP to hold the meeting on ground that the party had failed to obtain necessary permission from the returning officer.

According to him, a party which wanted to hold any public meeting should first obtain NOC from the village dorbar and officer in-charge of the police station before seeking permission from the returning officer, which the HSPDP had failed to do so in this case.

Asked, the former KHADC chief said that if the authority concerned is serious to implement the model code of conduct, then action should be taken against the sitting legislator of Nongkrem.

“If it (MCC) is just for name sake then the matter will ends there. But however I leave it to the wisdom of the authority concerned,” Shylla said while adding that he has no interest to file any complaint on this regard.
