Shillong, November 4: Three Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) member of the  Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) withdrew their support to the Congress led Khasi Hills United Democratic Alliance (KHUDA) executive committee over the latter failure to extend support to their demand for introduction on the need to implement the Inner Line Permit in the state.

The three HSPDP MDCs includes EM LG Nongsiej, Enbin K Raswai and KP Pangniang who resigned from the post of Chairman  of Traditional and Usages of the Council.

Nongseij, who is also the HSPDP parliamentary party secretary, said that the three MDCs unanimously decided to withdraw their support to the KHUDA with immediate effect. The decision for withdrawal was taken at the emergent meeting of the party.

The HSPDP is the ruling coalition partner of the Congress led KHUDA in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

The letter of withdrawal of support and resignation from the portfolios of the ruling bench was submitted to the KHADC’s Chief Executive Member (CEM) and Chairman – PN Syiem and Fabian Lyngdoh on Monday, Nongsiej informed.

“The reason to withdraw support is  because of the party’s stand on the need to implement the Inner-Line Permit (ILP) in the state,” Pangniang said.

The Congress led KHUDA had rejected the resolution on the need to urge the state government to implement the ILP during the third day of the winter session of the council held last week.

“Before the resolution was brought before the floor of the House, the members of the HSPDP had approach the CEM seeking the council’s support on the resolution on ILP which he had assured to consider the demand of the HSPDP,” Pangniang said. He, however, informed that the CEM later rejected the demanded and instead assured in the floor of the house to ensure that the Village Administration Bill is passed.
