If elected as MP, will remove ban on coal mining: Shullai

IMG_20190325_135023SHILLONG, MAR 25: BJP candidate for Shillong parliamentary seat and South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai today assured to lift the ban on coal mining, if elected as MP.

“If the people elect me as MP, we will remove all the problems arising out of the ban on coal mining. Therefore, give the BJP a chance,” Shullai told reporters on Monday after filing his nomination papers for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls to be held on April 11 .

However, the BJP has been alleged of failing to fulfill its promise made last year, to lift the ban on coal mining within six months.

On this, Shullai admitted that the party in its manifesto for the 2018 Assembly polls did appealed to the people of Meghalaya to vote for the BJP in order to form the government.

“However unfortunately people of the state have given us only two seats we could not form the government and now we are working with the MDA as a coalition partner of the NPP so we cannot do (lift the ban) it,” he claimed.

According to him, the party once again is appealing to the people to be wise enough this time because since the inception of the state, there are lots of issues despite commitments made by other parties during elections, are still stagnant for the last many years.

Shullai was accompanied by BJP CLP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek and party state president Shibun Lyngdoh besides workers and supporters during the last day for filing of nominations.

He will be contesting against sitting Congress Member of Parliament (MP) for the last ten years Vincent H Pala and MDA common candidate Jemino Mawthoh of the United Democratic Party (UDP).

Expressing confidence that the BJP will return to power at the Centre, Shullai further claimed that the people of India have already reposed their faith and confident on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“So here also we feel the same we are so confident and let us carry this message to the people across Khasi and Jaintia Hills that it is useless to waste their votes by voting for other parties and that they should vote for a party that will form the government in Delhi where all the issues concerning the state will be taken up the issues in Delhi directly with Modi,” he said.

He also assured to take up problems concerning the age old inter-state boundary dispute with Assam and the growing unemployment faced by the youth of the state.

With regards to the issue on the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill, Shullai said that the issue is dead.

If there is any confusion on this, he said, “Let me remind you that we the party MLAs have strongly opposed the CAB in a memorandum shot to the PM last year where we have demanded that the Bill should not be implemented in the North East region.”
