Implicated in 66 cases!

SHILLONG, JAN 16: The Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) expressed shock saying that an FKJGP leader, who was arrested and put under MPDA during the ILP agitation, have been implicated in 66 cases.

CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said the organization is shocked to learn that Reginald Thabah, the assistant publicity secretary of the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has been implicated in 66 cases all over East Khasi hills district.

Kharshiing alleged that initially Thabah was booked in 2 cases, one was registered at the Sadar police station and the other in the Lumdiengjri police station. They then added on another 64 cases and he was booked under MPDA, she complains in a press statement issued on Thursday.

Kharshiing said, “This is a direct abuse of power by the police who does not dare to make arrests of high ranking and influential people but pounce on the grass root workers.” She further alleged that the MPDA under which Thabah was put was revoked on December 20 which shows that he was illegally detained and was only produced before the magistrate on January 1.

Kharshiing concluded by saying that this shows he has been illegally detained for 17 days without obtaining any remand order.-By Our Reporter
