IT park on the anvil

SHILLONG, NOV 7: If Meghalaya information & technology minister AL Hek is to be believed then the state’s dream to have an Information Technology (IT) park may soon be a reality as the state IT department has already started the paper work for the project that can provide employment to thousands of unemployed youths of the state. Speaking to reporters, Hek informed on Thursday that the department has already called for technical and financial bid for the project. While the procedure of technical bid is over, the financial bid would be opened on the second week of November.

Hek said the state government has provided land measuring 80 acres to the IT department for this mega project. He, however, said that the department would like to sustain the IT Park and for this reason the government wants to rope in even the hospitality services into the project to ensure that a vibrant IT park is in place as a simple IT park would not be sustainable.

According to Hek, the investors are the most important factor for IT park and the sustainability of the project is largely dependent on them. He also said that the proposed project will benefit the local youths as most of the families in the state have at least one IT expert and this will solve the problem of unemployment to a large extent.- By Our Reporter
