KAM candidate files complaint against money distribution

SHILLONG, FEB 27: Chief electoral officer FR Kharkongor on Monday informed that an official complaint was received from KAM candidate Angela Rangad against distribution of money in South Shillong constituency.

He said that the matter was immediately sent to the district election officer (DEO), who accordingly directed the flying squads and static surveillance team to investigate the matter.

“However, when they reached there they found no activity there but we are taking cognizance of that report,” Kharkongor added.

The CEO also informed that there were three major violations against the model code of conduct. These include the group clash in Phulbari where 146 were bound under section 107 and 31 arrested, another group clash in West Shillong in which two FIRs were registered and a similar incident at Umroi in Ri Bhoi district.

“Apart from that during the silence periods, there were few complaints that parties were using social media – a few cases we have already escalated to the EC and they have taken down the post also because we don’t deal directly with the social media giants so we had to escalate it to the ECI and ECI after due verification they took down the post and those posts were no longer made available,” he said.
