SHILLONG, DEC 14: “A Quirk of Fate”, a book which is a collection of seventeen short stories, authored by a renowned caver in Meghalaya Brian D Kharpran was released on Monday by Meghalaya government commissioner & secretary DP Wahlang.

Some of the stories relate to his experiences as a caver and as a concerned environmentalist while the remaining few relate to the more mysterious and dark beliefs of tribal folks.

A romantic at heart, the author delves with the sensitivity and passion of one who truly understands and accepts that life is love and that there can be nothing greater than this feeling of immense joy and bliss that love encompasses.

“The stories relate to my experience in caving, few are based on actual events and true events but I have fictionalized them beside they also touches a bit on the environment,” Kharpran told reporters.Stating that book is also based on ‘love’, he said, “There are different stories but there are element of love too.”

When asked, Kharpran said, “Writing short stories has more satisfaction and I expect the readers to get a little insight of caving experience, environment and a lot on the aspect of love and the beauty of life itself,” adding “Though the stories are based in Meghalaya but they can be related to any part of the world.”

Interestingly, Kharpran had dedicated this book, which is his seventh, to late Padmashree Silverine Swer, from whom he drew inspiration as a writer. “I have the privilege of dedicating this book to her (Swer),” he said while recalling that she is one person who asks him to go into writing.

Meanwhile, Commissioner and Secretary of Education DP Wahlang referred to Kharpran as a complete man, who had not compromise with his passion as a caver and a writer and added that often people forget what they actually want to do in life as they are too busy focusing on their resume which is building external achievement but forget about other aspects of life.- By Our Reporter
