KHDA to take up issue over misuse of fund

SHILLONG, JULY 12: National People’s Party (NPP) member from Nongkrem HS Shylla today said the new executive committee to be led by the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) will take up the alleged misappropriation of Rs 28 crore funds by the former Council’s chief PN Syiem.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Shylla said the KHDA expressed its support to the demand of the PDF member from Nongskhen Grace Mary Kharpuri for a CBI inquiry into the matter.

“When we (KHDA) will be leading the new executive committee, we will definitely take up this matter seriously though her (Grace) demand is directly against the former CEM (who is her leader in the party,” he said.

Shylla and Kharpuri have filed their nominations for contesting the post of chief executive member (CEM) following the resignation of PDF leader PN Syiem on Tuesday.

In her statement after filing the nomination yesterday, Kharpuri had said that if she is to be elected as CEM of the Council, she would favour for a CBI inquiry into the alleged misappropriation of Rs 28 crore out of Rs 32 crore sanctioned by the Centre, last year.

Syiem was alleged to have diverted the Rs 28 crore on Council’s assets instead of sanctioning the same for the development of the different MDC constituencies.

Earlier, Kharpuri was supporting the KHDA but later pulled out and went back to support the PDA led by the PDF citing there was already division among the members over the selection of a CEM candidate.
