SHILLONG, JULY 12: MDC of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) Adelbert Nongrum has extended support to the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance (KHDA) in the KHADC on condition that no NOC should be granted for mining of Uranium.

In his letter of support to the KHDA chairman Samlin Malngiang and alliance CEM candidate HS Shylla on Thursday, Nongrum said that he is extending support to the alliance based on eight-point conditions.

“The Council should not grant No objective certificate (NOC) for the construction of roads which aim at facilitating mining of uranium in the region,” he said.

Demanding that there should be transparency in the job recruitment process, Nongrum said the Council should end all corruption practices.

He also stressed the need to regulate the issuing of trading license to non-indigenous business people within the jurisdiction of the Council.

Further, Nongrum also demanded that new executive committee should appoint him as the chairman of the Committee on Amendment of Election Process of MDC.

Speaking to reporters, Shylla said that the alliance has accepted the conditions put forth by the member in his letter of support in principle.
