Khliehriat to swing to Symphony on Friday

Shillong, Dec. 19: Come December 21, and the sound of music will resonate the bustling township of Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills, the heartland of black diamond, like never before as leading local artistes will enthrall an eclectic audience with songs galore.

Symphony, the day-long mega musical event, which is being organised by the East Jaintia Hills District Arts & Culture Society under the guidance of East Jaintia Hills deputy commissioner Abhishek Bhagotia, will be held at the Don Bosco field. The event is being managed by Shillong’s Harsha Bajaj and her team.

Western pop music apart, the event promises to be laced with local songs and music by individual artistes and bands. Local talents like Gracyl Ropmay, Merlvin Mukhim, Jane Garcia, Christopher Kurbah, Ram Suchiang, Felix

and bands like The Colours and The Strait Brothers, to name only a few, will captivate the audience with their songs and stage performance.

“The main aim of the extravaganza is to promote music and tourism in the East Jaintia Hills,” said a release issued by the organisers. The newest district known for the abundance of coal is also blessed with numerous caves and other tourist attractions.  The deputy commissioner, the release said, wants the event to be held on a regular basis, and not just remain a one-off event. (By Our Reporter)
