KHNAM pledges before U Tirot Sing bust

Shillong, Feb 11: In a political departure unseen in the political history of the state, the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) candidates contesting the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections, pledged before the bust of the Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem in the State Central library to serve the Khasi community with utmost sincerity and refrain from indulging in the politics of self and pelf.

KHNAM candidates were administered the pledge by the party’s president Pyndapborthiaw Saibon on Tuesday. Saibon will also be contesting the forthcoming district council elections from Shella constituency.

Two former ministers Pynshai Manik Syiem and Process T Sawkmie including Adilbert Nongrum, James Ban Basaiawmoit, Christable Wanniang, P Nongpluh and Alloius Dohtdong took the pledge.

“We promise to work honestly and deliver the best for the welfare of the Khasi tribe through the party. We will also preserve and protect our tribal people and tribal land by following the footsteps of our forefathers,” they pledged.

Vowing to uphold the principle and ideology of the party, the KHNAM members further pledged their allegiance to the KHNAM and to refrain from indulging in the politics of self and pelf.

Speaking to reporters, Saibon said, “The pledge administered is also to refrain members from shifting their allegiance to other political parties in the absent of the anti-defection law in the district council.”

Earlier, the members of the KHNAM also paid floral tribute to the bust of U Tirot Sing Syiem and U Kiang Nangbah.- By Our Reporter
