Stabbed to escape rape

SHILLONG, APR 25: An 18 year-old girl, who surrendered before the police after having stabbed a man for allegedly attempting to rape her, on Monday said her action was totally in ‘self defence’. The incident took place on April 22, when one Mohan Gurung (35) of Mawnianglah, Mylliem attempted to rape the girl, and the victim in self defence stabbed him.

Subsequent to the incident, the girl went and surrendered herself to the police who took her into custody.

In her FIR filed with Laban police station, the girl said, “In self defence and out of fear that he may succeed to rape me I grabbed whatever I could and stabbed him to ward him off as he was also much elder and stronger than me.”

“The next day I went to the police station and informed the police there that I had stabbed a man who had tried to rape me,” she said while adding that the delay in filing the FIR is because she was arrested and was also not aware of what to do.

Meanwhile, sources informed that Gurung was admitted in NEIGHRIMS.-By Our Reporter
