‘Provincialize services’

SHILLONG, APR 25: The Meghalaya Upper Primary School Teachers Association (MUPSTA) president Kenneth Shadap said it is the duty of the state government to take a final decision to provincialize the services of teachers in the state.

The MUPSTA is one of the teachers associations under the banner of the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM) which have been demanding provincialization of the teachers’ services.

“It is the duty of the Chief Minister and the cabinet to take a final decision and give approval to the JACATAM demand,” Shadap said while addressing the general meeting of MUPSTA East and West Jaintia Hills District recently.

He was referring to the letter sent by the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma to the JACATAM which indicated that the government is trying its level best for provincializing the services of the teachers.

Shadap, who is also the general secretary of the JACATAM, informed that he had also met the Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) Meghalaya to confirm the letter forwarded by the Chief Minister.

He also maintained that the JACATAM would not rest until the government complies with its demand.

“The JACATAM will have no other option but to agitate and demonstrate even in the street if the demand is not fulfilled,” he added. In his speech, MUPSTA general secretary RR Ronghang urged the teachers to have good understanding and work together to strengthen the association.-By Our Reporter
