Shillong, Feb 15: On the backdrop of the racial attack and the killing of the Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tamian, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) formed the KSU-Delhi unit to oversee and ensure that the welfare and interest of the Khasi students’ studying in the country’s capital is protected.

Former KSU president and North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) chairman Samuel B Jyrwa formally launched the KSU- Delhi unit in the country capital on Saturday.

The formation of KSU-Delhi came following the alleged racial attacks on students from the North East pursuing their studies in the national capital.

“The newly formed body will look into the various students’ related issues and problems and further ensure that the interest and welfare of our students’ community are protected,” Jyrwa told this scribe over phone from Delhi.

He said, “Having a unit here (Delhi) is also to strengthen and unite fellow students.”

Jyrwa also administered the union’s pledge to as many as 51 office bearers of the newly formed Delhi unit of the KSU.

The Delhi-unit of the KSU will be headed by Khynpham Kharlyndoh, a former KSU-NEHU president.

Other members of the newly formed KSU unit are:  vice president – Simon Kharsohtun, general secretary – Rhembor Saibon, asst general secretary – Lambok Hynniewta, finance secretary – Eveningstone Myrboh, organizing secretary – Ridame Sari, education secretary – Nangsan Khongwir, publicity secretary – Pyndap Lawrynniang, socio-cultural secretary – Lurlam Jyrwa, girls’ in-charge – Bada Dkhar and Phira Buhray besides 40 executive members.

Jyrwa also joined the rally and prayer meeting organized by the North East students in Jantar Mantar, as a mark of protest against the atrocities committed on the students of the region and also the killing of Nido Taniam.- By Our Reporter
