KSU leader arrested, bike set on fire

SHILLONG, SEPT 12: KSU Mawlai Mawiongrim organizing secretary Ferdinand Skhemiew was arrested by the police at Mawiong when he along with another person hurled petrol bomb at the police patrol team consisting of a magistrate and police party even as a motorbike was burned by miscreants in Law-u-sib at Rynjah on Thursday during the night road blockade.

Miscreants also attempted to set fire to the office of Geological Survey of India (GSI) located in Nongrim hills at around 10. 30 pm and set on fire the official Bolero vehicle ML 01 4148 of the Nongstoin district housing officer Francis Kharshiing by hurling petrol bombs. The vehicle was parked at the compound of Belis M Nongrum at Lawsohtum block 5.

East Khasi hills SP M Kharkhrang informed that the police found an empty petrol bottle from the possession of Skhemiew. He also informed that an attempt to set the Bolero on fire failed as the tenants detected the fire and douse it.

Police sources also informed that the attempt to set ablaze the GSI office at Nongrim hills also failed as the petrol bomb the miscreants hurled landed in the compound of the office and it burst there.

However the motorbike was not lucky as unidentified miscreants managed to set it on fire and the seat was damaged.

Police are investigating into all the three cases and hoped that with regard to the Mawiong case the arrested KSU leader might reveal the identity of the person who was with him but managed to escape.-By Our Reporter
