Office gutted in W Jaintia

SHILLONG, SEPT 12:  The state sericulture department rearing house at Moodymmai village under the Ummulong police beat house in West Jaintia hills was completely gutted in the wee hour of Thursday when miscreants set it on fire. Equipments and other paraphernalia amounting to Rs 10 lakhs were completely gutted in the fire. West Jaintia hills SP Hubert G Lyngdoh said that the incident took place at around 4.30 am just half an hour before the night road blockade was about to end.

On Wednesday , the State Veterinary office at Muthlong village, 20 kilometers from district headquarter, Jowai of West Jaintia hills was partially damage when a group of miscreants attempted to set it ablaze the office by using petrol.

An FIR was also lodged with the police.  Though Lyngdoh said that the rearing house caught fire but there was no sign of arson and the fire might have been due to short circuit but MeECL officials who had gone to the spot to inspect said that he fire was not because of the short circuit.

Meanwhile, Lyngdoh informed that the police have been asked to be alert and security in government offices have also been beefed up. He said, “We have also intensified patrolling drive to ensure there are no untoward incidents in future.” –By Our Reporter
