KSU meets health minister

SHILLONG, MAY 8: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has urged the state government to make functional the different health centres under South West Khasi Hills District in the interest of the people of the region.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the health minister AL Hek on Tuesday, KSU-South West Khasi Hills District organizing secretary Marcony Thongni said that the delegation has urged the minister to intervene to ensure that these health centres are made functional at the earliest.

These include the 100 bedded Community Health Centre (CHC) at Mawkyrwat, Public Health Centre (PHC) at Lawbah, and the Health Sub-centres at Nongkynbah, Mawthong, and Nongnam, he said.

Asked, Thongni said that the minister informed that the revise estimate for the construction of the Mawkyrwat CHC is yet to be approved by the government adding that Lawbah PHC which has been completed for past two years is yet to get the required manpower.

On the other hand, the delegation has also urged the government to address the problem related to shortage in the supply of medicines in the Ranikor CHC and allow the 108 ambulance to come under its control.

“We want that the 108 ambulance should be under the CHC instead of people having to call its Shillong office for availing its services. This is in view of the fact that there is poor mobile network connectivity,” he said.

The minister has assured the delegation that he would soon take up the matter with the chief minister Conrad K Sangma, Thongni informed.
