Laban winter fest concludes amidst merrymaking

SHILLONG, DEC 29: Working towards wrapping up the society with love and brotherhood this winter, a weeklong activity filled with sports, merrymaking and music was organised by Seng Samla Laban, (SSL) which concluded Saturday amidst a breath taking musical evening at the Laban Sports Club premises.

Songs, dances and various traditional and cultural performances from members of the SSL and others rocked the celebration to the hilt. Addressing the gathering at the concluding function, Meghalaya deputy chief minister Bindo M Lanong said, “It is a noble initiative of the SSA towards strengthening the society.”

Explaining the merits associated with celebration like the Laban week, Lanong observed, “Initiative like these provides a platform to the young and talented to showcase their skills.”

“It helps the young to explore and know what they are good at and perhaps may even pursue it as a career,” he added.

Reflecting on the role played by Laban Sports Club (LSC) in improving the football scenario in the state, Lanong observed, “LSP played a crucial role in uplifting football in the state, I hope it continues to contribute in the field of sports.”

Informing the gathering about the various initiative of the state government in the field of sports, Lanong urged the budding sports person to bring forth their talent.

“Infrastructure plays an important role for sports person to deliver to the optimum and the state government is committed to provide it,” he assured.

Meanwhile, Toshanbor Nongbet, the Indian Idol finalist from Shillong, was not able to perform following a throat problem much to the dismay of the gathering.

The president of Shillong Sports Association (SSA), KF Rangad who also spoke on the occasion lauded the initiative of the SSL and urged the youths to consider sports as a career.- By Our Reporter
